World Heritage Region Bad Goisern, Gosau, Hallstatt, Obertraun

The touristic region “Inner Salzkammergut“ represents the World Heritage Site “Hallstatt/Dachstein” while at the same time being one of the most beautiful regions of Austria. For a long time, the tourism association “Inner Salzkammergut”, represented by the four communities Bad Goisern, Gosau, Hallstatt and Obertraun, has supported the optimal touristic promotion of the region.

Part of the marketing strategy stresses the “World Heritage Region” aspect: in the framework of this project, this aspect is further emphasized and pronounced to be a guiding theme for the entire region in order to both support the development of sustainable tourism and strengthen the national and international marketing of the region.

The project did not view tourism as an isolated entity, but as an integral part of the economy and the development of the region. In view of both its concrete objectives and its implementation, the project was carried through in cooperation with the responsible regional institutions and associations, the regional touristic enterprises and communities and other key actors such as the public employment services, institutions of further education, chambers etc.

The development of the guiding theme “World Heritage Region Bad Goisern, Gosau, Hallstatt, Obertraun” aims to make a contribution to providing the conditions for an enhancement of employment in tourism with attractive jobs in quality conscious companies. Economic, ecological and social objectives must be prioritised; part of the means provided shall be directly invested into the region.

This requires a close cooperation of businesses with tourist and leisure organisations, a networking of complementary and thus enriching offers (for instance specific economic sectors, cultural institutions, sports and adventure offers) and especially the presentation of alternative opportunities (development of society, climate change etc.) for tourism, which is one of the most important branches of trade in Austria and in each of the federal states. During the entire period of sponsorship, innovations were initiated and accompanied, the qualification of employees was supported and networks across branches were established.
