Movement in gender relations? The role of men in Austria in a European comparison

The publication – a joint work of Nadja Bergmann with Christian Scambor and Elli Scamobr (Association for men’s related and gender topics in Styria) – builds on the results of the EU-wide study “The Role of Men in Gender Equality” and makes them useful for the Austrian context. The situation in Austria is compared internationally: How does the current situation in Austria present itself with regard to the role of men in areas relevant to equality policy? Which relevant EU-wide trends and findings apply to Austria, which do not, what can be learned from other countries?

For this purpose, central themes – education, gainful employment, unpaid work, violence, health and politics – were analysed in which areas movement, stagnation and persistence in gender relations can be identified. On the basis of the analysis, the authors sought answers to the question of whether gender and equality policies can be discussed again if men are actively perceived as addressees and participants of them.
