Qualification network Travnik, Bosnia-Herzegovina

Travnik is the largest city of Central Bosnia Canton; due to its difficult geographic location and especially due to its insufficient infrastructure its development lags behind considerably compared to, e.g., Greater Sarajevo. While the labour market situation is not dramatic, there is significant demand for improvement regarding the training of the workforce and therefore also regarding competitiveness.

The specific measures of the qualification network aimed to

  • enable employees from a number of regional enterprises to communicate with the customers of the respective employer and to thereby improve the stability of their own job by means of a language course.
  • qualify employed persons and job seekers through an intensive training in the field of welding for demanding tasks in metal-working enterprises up to a corresponding certification.

The metal-working company GS-TMT was the leading company within the Travnik qualification network. The company is in Austrian-Croatian ownership and is mainly active in exporting to Germany and Austria; additionally it also has a number of Bosnian customers. The new management has been modernising the operations continuously since taking over the company some years ago and has developed new standards regarding quality assurance, among other aspects.

L&R Social Research was responsible for consulting the companies that are part of the qualification network and for developing the network concept.
