Demography and social statistics of individual entrepreneurs

Empirical results on the grey area
between self-employed and gainful employment are still in short supply or
reliable data on demography and the living and income situation of these
gainfully employed persons are lacking. For years, however, Statistic Austria
has been collecting suitable data, but hardly evaluating them. Therefore, the
demography and social statistics of EPUs and solo self-employed persons were
examined in more detail within the framework of this project by preparing a broad
data basis, which includes not only highly reliable administrative data but
also background data, in order to determine the occupational, income and
environmental situation of EPUs in Austria and to make them accessible for
further secondary evaluations by third parties. The aim was to describe the
current situation of the target group according to demographic, regional and
sector-specific subdivisions with regard to their specific life situation.

L&R Social Research, as a
subcontractor with various previous experiences in this field and in dealing
with highly sensitive data, supported an optimal expertise for the project in
order to tackle questions from different perspectives and complementary
approaches.
