Education Location Southwest Styria: Regional Optimization of the Job Orientation Process

In practice, the responsibilities for vocational orientation for pupils and young people between the institutions (school, labor market administration, extracurricular youth work projects, social partners, etc.) are often not sufficiently clarified. There are different points of view about which institutions can reach young people best. That is why in recent discussions the regions have come to the fore as a coordination institution.

As part of the “Regional Education and Vocational Orientation”, the regional BBO coordinators in Styria are working on the optimal conflation of young people with their interests and wishes, their knowledge and skills with the opportunities, needs and requirements of the world of work and employment. Both sides have to be coordinated again and again in a lifelong process. The research project focused on the following priorities:

  • Elicitation of the support needs of secondary school students through an online survey with regard to the job orientation process, its evaluation of the existing offers and their expectations of potential jobs (in the region)
  • Elicitation of the needed support of regional companies in the search for personnel as well as their assessment of the short and medium-term qualification needs via secondary data analyzes, an online survey and qualitative interviews with BO experts from the region
  • Analysis of regional labor market data (focus on occupations / apprenticeships, relevant future qualifications, labor market forecasts)
The results of the study should be conducive to a basis for decision-making and planning for the development and implementation of future offers.
The project is carried out in cooperation with Renate Divitschek from BAB Unternehmensberatung GmbH.
